Dave Chappelle is a world renowned American stand-up comedian, actor, and producer. His body of work includes his satirical sketch series The Chappelle Show, which dives into many sociopolitical issues. The success of this television series sky rocketed Chappelle to the top of the comedy world. Throughout his career he made many appearances on Saturday Night Live and acted in films such as Robinhood: Men in Tights, Uncovered Brother, and A Star is Born.
Chappelle was born to an African American family in 1973. His parents were professors by profession and political activists, which caused Johnny Hartman and Pete Seeger to visit their home often. Hartman predicted early on that Dave would become one of the great comedians of his time. Dave was brought up in Maryland and attended Woodlin School. He was highly inspired by the comedy of Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor and went on to graduate from Duke Ellington School of Arts majoring in Theater Arts.
In the 1990’s, he quickly made his name in the comedy world by winning the Popular Critical Award from Def Comedy Jam. During his rise, another big break came in the form of his legendary performance on The Late Show With David Letterman. He had a few other notable performances in his budding career including three appearances in Star Search, a feature on the sitcom Home Improvement, and a hilarious character appearance in the Nutty Professor. Dave has won a number of Emmy Awards for Chappelle Show and his appearances on Saturday Night Live.
